She’s seriously beautiful, isn’t she?! I love her gorgeous smile! Meet Samantha Lopez, owner and baker at Sammy’s Sweets in Ontario, Ore. I met Samantha through a mutual friend. She was a delight from our first meeting, and was so easy to talk to and get to know. I have enjoyed her cakes and am also excited to share a little announcement about them too. What is the name of your business? What products/services do you offer?
Sammy’s Sweets. We make cakes, cookies, pies and all desserts from scratch. My Mom and best friend, Lisa, help me decorate cakes. It’s so nice to have people willing to help in any way they can. My boyfriend, Marcos, also helps and stays up late at night with me.
How long have you been in business?
Almost two years!
What made you decide to open your business?
It was my dream to to have a cake business. We offer specialty cakes for all occasions. I attended Western Culinary Institute and studied Patisserie and Baking. Desserts make me happy and it’s actually a stress reliever for me. We always have some baked goods on hand at our house. I love meeting new people in my community. It’s an awesome feeling having my hometown support my small business. The best thing about making cakes is seeing peoples’ reactions when they see what their cakes look like. I have to say my favorite part of all this is when they take a bite of one of my desserts and that look they get. Total bliss… That’s why I love what I do!
What inspires you?
Seeing other women who are self taught cake artists inspire me. If they can do it, so can I!
What’s something you want people to know about you?
Sheet cakes stress me out! I find them harder to decorate and fill space…

What do you and your family do for fun?
Baking with the kids, movie nights and board games.
Since I love food and food is fun, what’s your favorite dish to make or eat?
My favorite dish to make is Chicken Enchiladas with tomatillo sauce. They are spicy and delicious, and everyone loves them!
Describe your perfect day. (where would that be, what would you do, who would you be with)?
My perfect day would be at the beach reading a book and listening to the waves.
If you had one super power, what would it be?
I’d want to fly!
